Psalm 40

Loving Lord,

We wait patiently for you to act in our world.

We stand with friends, with neighbours, with enemies.

With people who feel themselves forgotten, betrayed, neglected.

And we wait patiently for you to act.

With people who are bruised, battered, abused.

And we wait patiently for you to act.

With people who are anxious, oppressed, aggrieved.

And we wait patiently for you to act.

But how long must we wait?

How long before we see an end to injustice?

We worship you as the God of resurrection.

The God of new life.

So recapture our gaze, our hope, our trust.

Put a new song in our hearts, and a new spirit in our lives.

Open our eyes to your actions here and now,

To signs of hope, signs of you at work.

And made us a sign of your presence.

Be present to us, to those for whom we pray.

Make us a sign of hope,

So that many will see, and fear, and put their trust in the LORD
